Black Onyx ready-mix concrete is definitely one of the more popular colours we use. You will see this photo in a few areas of our galleries.
This colour is great for literally any type of concrete. From driveways, patios, curbs, raised beds, retaining walls, etc.
Especially over the last few years, the darker grey colours have been extremely popular and not just as an accent color but even for a full mixed in colour.
If using a dark color like this for a ready-mix, you need to keep in mind that there is no going back like there could be with a topical coloring. For example, if you use a lighter color grey as a ready-mix you can always darken it with a topical coloring. If you go this dark with the Black Onyx ready-mix concrete from the beginning, it will be nearly impossible to go lighter in the future.
We do suggest that people start lighter and we can always do a topical after to correct or to add accents, so while this colour is popular we do hazard clients before choosing this. Or at least, start with a single bag mix.
Integral Ready Mix Concrete is superior to topical coatings because it is mixed evenly and completely throughout the concrete prior to it being poured.
This means that if there is a crack or cut to the concrete over time, that the natural concrete colour does not show through.
This helps protect the overall look of the concrete even if damage or chips occur over time.
